Leadership thoughts
I would rather term it as - Control vs Alignment. I was over an interesting discussion with my wife over Managerial responsibilities. I was associating the terms "control" and "command" with a Manager but my wife, from her experience as a team lead across years, had a nice point to share. She feels Manager should strive the align the team in the direction of the goals and not control. Control requires micro management but once you strive and get the team member aligned, there is no extra efforts required for having good productivity. Its like teaching fishing rather than giving fish. Also control and command creates unnecessary friction and hierarchy in the team whereas aligning is more on the lines of motivation and inspiration which gives the feeling of "all in the family" or rather a "friendly circle".
